According to UDisc, a leading platform for disc golf players and statistics, over 21.2 million rounds of disc golf were played in 2025 across over 17,000 courses worldwide.
To put that into perspective, there are more disc golf courses in the United States than Dunkin’ Donuts locations.
It’s one of America’s fastest growing sports, so you better believe that Stone County, Mississippi is in on the fun.
In fact, in Stone County, disc golfers have already found a place worth celebrating. Cheona Trails Disc Golf Course at Flint Creek Water Park has earned the No. 1 ranking in Mississippi from UDisc. And this fall, the course is getting a chance to show off what makes it so special to locals and visitors alike.
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, Stone County will welcome players for a Flex C-Tier competition as part of the annual Big Rip Classic, one of the Southeast’s largest disc golf tournaments.
It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced player, new to the sport or simply looking for a reason to spend a fall weekend outdoors with a game that’s for everyone, there’s plenty to get excited about at the Cheona Trails Disc Golf Course!
A Course Worth Talking About
Disc golf combines the challenge of traditional golf with the breeziness of frisbee. Instead of clubs and golf balls, players use specialized discs to navigate a course, aiming to reach each basket along the way in as few throws as possible, similarly to golf.
At the Cheona Trails Disc Golf Course, players are treated to 18 holes winding through the natural beauty of Flint Creek Water Park. A mix of scenic fairways, forested obstacles and plenty of water make every round an opportunity to test your skills.
The course’s No. 1 ranking from UDisc is a major distinction, placing Cheona Trails at the top of Mississippi’s disc golf destinations for 2026.
For local players, it’s something to be proud of. For visitors, it’s another reason to put Stone County on the map.
And with the Big Rip Classic approaching, there’s never been a better time to see what all the excitement is about.
The Big Rip Classic Comes to Wiggins
Get your discs ready!
On Saturday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Cheona Trails will host a Flex C-Tier competition connected to the annual Big Rip Classic.
Recognized as Mississippi’s largest disc golf tournament and one of the biggest in the Southeast, the Big Rip Classic brings together players from across the region to compete, connect and celebrate the sport.
This year’s competition at Cheona Trails gives players the opportunity to experience Mississippi’s top-rated course while participating in a legendary tournament tradition.
And here’s some good news for anyone interested in competing: a current Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) membership is not required to enter a C-Tier event!
Players without a current membership can participate by paying a $15 temporary membership fee when registering, and junior divisions are exempt from that fee.
That means you don’t have to be a longtime tournament regular to join the competition, or the fun!
You can be chasing a personal best or simply hoping to keep your disc out of the water, there’s room for everyone to enjoy the challenge!

A trip to Cheona Trails doesn’t have to end with the final basket.
Located at the Flint Creek Water Park & Reservoir in Wiggins, the course sits along one of Stone County’s favorite outdoor destinations. The 1,900-acre park surrounds a scenic 650-acre lake and offers plenty of ways to enjoy South Mississippi’s natural beauty.

The reservoir offers several lodging options, including RV campsites with utility hookups, primitive tent camping, vacation cabins and camphouses.
Make a weekend of it by arriving Friday evening, settling into your accommodations and enjoying a little downtime before Saturday’s competition.
After your round, trade the discs for fishing rods, take a walk along the water or simply enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by the pines.
You might even find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve finished packing.
